St. Piran
St. Piran is the patron saint of Cornwall. Legend tells that he was an Irish
monk. His fellow monks tied him to a millstone and tossed him into the Irish
Sea. Rather than sinking, the stone floated and carried Piran east to the shores
of Cornwall. When he arrived, he was declared a saint.
His day is still
celebrated by Cornish everywhere on March 5.

The Cornish flag shown above bears the cross of St. Piran.
